Mohawkite is named after the Mohawk Mine on Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, where it was first discovered in 1900.  Mohawkite is a rare and distinctive copper-based mineral that is prized for its unique combination of elements that create an attractive appearance of metallic luster and striking colors.

It's composed primarily of copper and arsenic, but can also contain small amounts of other elements like silver, nickel, cobalt, cuprite and skutterudite. Mohawkite's colors can range from metallic yellow, pink, and purple to gray, and it can sometimes have a blueish-green tarnish.

Mohawkite’s eye-catching appearance, coupled with its rarity, makes it a sought-after collector’s item among mineral enthusiasts. The interplay of colors and the metallic sheen contribute to the aesthetic appeal of polished Mohawkite.
